Kaitlyn's First Year

I finally finished Kaitlyn's one year slideshow.  I could watch it over and over again.  I hope someday she loves it just as much as I do.  Now, I need to work on her First Year photo album.  I have less than 6 months before I'll be snapping thousands of photos of her baby brother/sister!

Pregnancy: Week 15

Week 15: Continuing the march towards normal proportions, baby's legs now outmeasure the arms. And, finally, all four limbs have functional joints. Your fetus is squirming and wiggling like crazy down in the womb, though you probably still can't feel the movements.

Since I just posted yesterday, not much has changed.  I feel great!  I've been lucky that with both pregnancies I have had no morning sickness...yay!  My sense of smell is definitely hightened so certain things can make my stomach turn when I get a wiff, but all in all this pregnancy seems pretty comparible to the first.

I'm back!

For now anyway. :)  We are counting down to our last day in Quito...3 months and 6 days to be exact.  I know time will fly and we have lots to do in preparation of our move.  In the meantime, I thought I'd do a quick recap of some developments since my last post, one month ago.

  • On January 5th, one of my dearest friends and former college roomates, Kim, suffered a brain injury.  The injury was a result of her heart stopping due to an unknown heart condition she had.  Kim has been in rehab and has made some WONDERFUL progress.  She has really beaten the odds and it truly is a miracle, but at the same time, those who know what a strong person she is and the dedication she puts toward anything she sets her mind on, are not surprised.  If anyone could do it, it would be her!  I'm happy to say that Kim is scheduled to be discharged from the hospital today and will be going home!  :)  If you'd like to read more about her story, please click here to visit the site, which is updated by her husband.
  • Liane and I took a trip to Cincinnati to visit Kim.  Although it was a short trip, it was so great to see her.  We were able to observe and/or participate in her therapies.  She amazed us. Even when she was exhausted, she had a smile on her face and was ready do whatever the therapists asked.  Here are some pics of Liane and I taken during the trip:

  • We took a trip to Miami to celebrate Kaitlyn's birthday.  As always, it was so nice to be home.  Kaitlyn's birthday party was lots of fun and I know all of the family loved seeing Kaitlyn at this stage...so active and walking!  Here are some pics from her actual birthday and the party:

  • While we were home and surrounded by family, we had to opportunity to share some exciting news with everyone!  I'm pregnant!
We told our family by dressing Kaitlyn in her new "I'm going to be a big sister" t-shirt and waited until they noticed.  It was lots of fun!  I will be 15 weeks tomorrow and I have been feeling great.  We've had 2 ultrasounds so far and it's been amazing to see how much the baby has grown already.  I am due on August 18 and we hope to find out if it's a boy or girl in about a month.  We are very excited to become parents again!

Here are some illustrations of the baby's growth so far (I'm not sure why thebump.com uses food to compare, but it's a neat way to measure the growth...and make me hungry):

The poppy seed.  Itty bitty...
The apple seed
The pea
The blueberry
The raspberry
The olive
The prune
The lime
The plum
The peach
The lemon
Week 14: Your adorable little fetus is busy with thumb sucking, toe wiggling, and (not so cute but equally amazing) making urine and breathing amniotic fluid as the liver, kidneys and spleen continue to develop. Lanugo (thin, downy hair) is growing all over the body for warmth.

I'll try my best to update each week and post pictures from the ultrasounds.
