Kaitlyn Misses Daddy and Loves the Mouse!

Kaitlyn loves sitting on my lap at the computer and going through pictures and video from the blog. When we recently re-watched the video of her doing ring around the rosey, she heard Ronnie’s voice on it and got so excited to hear Daddy. I quickly grabbed the video camera to record her excitement so I could share it with Ronnie.  It took me a second to figure out what she was asying when she saw the picture of Daddy...he'll be so proud of how observant she is.  As you'll see, she also gets pretty excited for “mouse”…Chuck E. Cheese and Mickey.
I originally put the clip together just for Ronnie, but after watching it over and over again, myself, I thought family would love to see it, too. I just love her expressions and the way she says “mouse!” right at the end.  This is guaranteed to make you smile...if you're family.  I understand if my non-family readers think it's boring. :)

Kaitlyn is swimming!

Last week, I started Mommy and Me swim lessons with Kaitlyn.  I thought it would be something fun for us to do together while teaching her some important water survival skills.  The first week of class was rough.  Kaitlyn was not happy and wanted nothing to do with learning to swim...and that was even before we went under water.  She just did not want to participate, whatsoever.  There were a lot of tears and lots of resistance from her.  On the 4th day of class it was time to go under water.  That didn't help.  She threw a fit!  I hated seeing her so upset, but I knew what we were doing was important and I would have to stick with it.  On the first day we went under water, my mom was there to take some video so we could send it to Ronnie.  It was bad.  Ronnie was not happy about seeing his girl being "tortured".  I won't share that video because it really is heartbreaking to watch.

Now, fast forward one week to today.  I'm so proud to say that our little rebellious toddler has learned that when she goes under, she comes back up and she is officially a swimmer!!  Over the last few days she's gotten calmer, cried less and really excelled and today she was a superstar!  Here's video from today's class--one week after she first went under water.

I'm so impressed with how far she's come.  If you're in the South Florida area, I highly recommend Little Swimmers for lessons!

Pregnancy Update: Months 7 & 8

Before this baby is born, I figured I should catch up on the pregnancy updates...

Month 7 (weeks 29-32): Baby’s energy is surging, thanks to the formation of white fat deposits beneath the skin. (Have those kicks and jabs to the ribs tipped you off yet?) Baby is also settling into sleep and waking cycles, though -- as you’ve also probably noticed -- they don’t necessarily coincide with your own. Also this month, all five senses are finally functional, and the brain and nervous system are going through major developments.

And I'm just finishing up month 8...
Month 8 (weeks 33-36): Baby’s senses are continuing to improve -- when light peeks in through your (extremely) stretched belly, those tiny eyelids and irises blink and dilate. And, baby can now recognize and react to simple songs… time to start practicing your lullabies! Growth (at least inside your womb) is starting to slow, and you may notice baby descend into your pelvis at the end of this month.

Here's the belly at 36 weeks.  Please excuse the horrible picture.  I forgot to take the picture during the day so the lighting was bad and I didn't want to use the flash.

  • I am 36 weeks today and I can't believe we are less than a month from meeting our son!
  • Ron is already in Israel, which means I am officially on maternity medevac.  Kaitlyn and I are settled into the apartment we're renting for the summer and she is keeping me busy!  She hasn't been a very good sleeper these days, but I have learned to nap when she naps and get to bed early to make up for the lack of sleep throughout the night.
  • I'm feeling good, just trying to stay cool in the awful South Florida heat.
  • Baby Boy T still doesn't have a name!
  • Please say a prayer that Baby Boy stays in Mommy's belly until Ron comes back.  I have really started to freak out about the thought of him arriving early and Ron not being here!

Is Israel Safe to Visit?

Upon telling family, friends and even strangers that we are moving to Tel Aviv, Israel, the most often asked question we get is: "Is it safe?" Heck, that was probably the first question out of my mouth when I found out we were going there! I've gone from tears of disappoint to true excitement about moving to Tel Aviv.

When we found out we were moving to Tel Aviv last year, I scoured the internet for information.  I stumbled across igoogledisrael.com.  It is a site dedicated to all things Israel...the best restaurants, bars, beaches, attractions, etc. and is written by Ashley, "an ex-Brit who went to Israel for two months and ended up staying for 18 years."  I have found tons of useful information from his site and when I saw today's post, I had to share it.  Hopefully this will encourage more of our friends to come for a visit! :)

Kaitlyn's New Best Friend

Kaitlyn has a new found obsession with Elmo.  Her Nana & Papa T have a huge Tickle Me Elmo at their house and when we go over for a visit, she no longer says "Nana!" or "Papa!" when we pull up to the house.  Now she announces "Elmo!"  More recently, my mom gave me some old Sesame Street DVDs and Elmo's World was one of them.  I decided to put it on one day while I was trying to keep Kaitlyn occupied while I made dinner.  She absolutely loved it!  She walks up to the TV and says "ELMO!" every day.  The day after she saw it, as we left the house, she said "Bye-bye, Elmo!"  She can't get enough of the little red guy.

I decided to look for a plush Elmo toy and today I found one.  She was so happy!  As we made our way through Target, she kept trying to feed him apples and she threw a fit when I had to hand him over to the cashier at checkout.  Tonight I asked her if she wanted Elmo to sleep in her bed and she grabbed him before hopping on my lap for our bedtime routine.  She hugged him the whole time and once she was out, I snuck back in to take this picture.

It's so cute to see her so excited about him. :)

...all fall DOWN!

It's been a while since we've gotten any video of Kaitlyn.  I have to remind myself to get the video camera out.  Here's some footage taken last week of her acting crazy before bedtime.

Kaitlyn's Day at Chuck E.Cheese's

Last Friday (Ron's last full day in the States), was deemed All-About-Kaitlyn Day.  We decided that it could possibly be the last day that we were all together with Kaitlyn as the only child.  That would mean Ron doesn't make it back in time for Baby Boy T's arrival, which I pray doesn't happen, but it is a possibility.  We had grand plans of spending the day spoiling Kaitlyn with some time at the beach, lunch at Chuck E. Cheese's, then ending the day with ice cream.  Unfortunately, Kaitlyn had a rough night the night before so that threw a monkey wrench into our morning plans.  We didn't make it to the beach, but we did all get a nap, which is way better than the beach in my opinion.  :)  We headed to Chuck E. Cheese's as soon as we woke up and had a great time.

While I stepped away to hit the salad bar, Ron snapped this picture of himself with Kaitlyn.  This pictures screams "Daddy's Girl" and I love it so much.  It is my new favorite photo of them and it makes me smile every time.
I wanted a shot at a Mommy/Kaitlyn equivalent, but it didn't come out nearly as cute!
Kaitlyn loves driving with Chuck E. and gave him some kisses to thank him for riding along with her.
Chuck E. singing to Kaitlyn.  She's a big fan!

It's so crazy that we are now down to just weeks before our son's arrival!  5 weeks to be exact...how did THAT happen???

4th of July

We had such a great 4th of July this year!  It's not often that we get to spend the holiday at home, so just being in the good ol' U.S. of A. made the day extra special to begin with.  We started the day with a neighborhood parade not far from our parent's house.  It was the perfect first parade for Kaitlyn!  It lasted about 30 minutes, had just enough excitement to keep her interested and there were lots of kids.  We really felt like we were in a completely different city.  It had a very "small-town" feel and we loved it.
Many of the floats threw candy, beads and toys to the crowd.  We especially liked the ones that threw popsicles!
After the parade, we came home and everyone enjoyed a much needed nap.  We then stuffed our faces with some delicious traditional 4th of July foods, then it was time for a dip in the pool.  Kaitlyn's Auntie Di bought her this adorable, festive tankini
Monkey see...
Monkey do...
We decided in advance that we wouldn't keep Kaitlyn up to watch fireworks. With many of the firework displays not starting until 9p.m., it would be well past her bedtime and it really wouldn't appreciate it at this age, anyway.  We bought a $10 bag of explosives from a street vendor and took her outside after dinner to set them off.
It was still very light outside so it was hard to get the full effect.  She seemed interested in the sparks and noises she could see and hear, but it was more of a concerned interest as opposed to excitement.
Then it was time for a bath and bedtime for Kaitlyn.  Once she was out, Ron and I went to go see the big fireworks nearby.  We had perfect seats away from the crowds and Black Point Marina put on a nice show.  It really was a perfect day!  I look forward to the next time we spend 4th of July in the States.  It's never the same being overseas...

A Day at the Zoo

Last weekend we took Kaitlyn to the zoo for the first time.  It was terribly hot so we only saw about a 3rd of the zoo before we decided we had seen enough.  That will be the last time we go to the zoo in the summer...and when I'm 8 months pregnant.  Ron's parents and niece went with us and despite the heat, we all had a great time!
