C25K Update--I'm doing it!

It's been a while since I've posted about my progress (or lack thereof) with the Couch to 5K program.  I admit I got a little lazy, had to skip some runs because life got in the way, but I am officially back on the program and LOVING it!

I must have spent a total of 5 weeks trying to get beyond Week 4 of the program.  The first time I finished Week 4 and looked ahead to what Week 5 would include, I was scared.  The three runs for Week 5 look like this:
  • Day 1 - 5 minute warm up, 8 minute jog, 5 minute walk, 8 minute jog, 5 minute cool down
  • Day 2 - same as Day 1
  • Day 3 - 5 minute warmup, 20 minute run, 5 minute cool down...this seemed CRAZY to me!
When I saw that I was supposed to do a 20 minute run, I didn't feel ready.  I decided to repeat Week 4, just to make sure I'd be prepared to successfully complete Week 5.  That's when life got in the way...Kaitlyn's birthday, sick kids, etc, etc, etc...and a little bit of laziness thrown in there.  I finally got back to it and got through Week 4.  During that same week, Ron and I did a few extra runs at a local track.  During one of those runs, we decided we'd do one complete lap (1K) with no walking, just to see if I could do it.  When I was just about to finish the lap, I realized I felt good and I could keep going, so we did another lap!  I couldn't believe I ran 2K without stopping!  It felt really great!

The next week, I started Week 5 and yesterday was the day I was to run 20 minutes straight.  I was nervous, but felt pretty confident that I could do it.  Well, I did...and I could have kept going!  :)  I'm so proud of my progress.  It feels great to actually see an improvement in my endurance and after yesterday I really look forward to working my way up to running a full 5K.  To keep me motivated, I acutally signed up for my first a couple of races!

The 2011 Jerusalem Marathon on March 25th:

and the Tel Aviv Marathon, on April 8th!
I will be competing in the 10% Race in both, which techinically makes them 4.2K. But there is another race in April that I plan on doing...an actual 5K.

Check out the route of the TLV 10% Race on the map below.  Assuming we have nice weather, it should be a lovely run with a view of the sea.

I'm very excited to actually be doing this and a little nervous that the first race is less than a month away, but I think I'll be ready--I HOPE I'll be ready.  I'll keep you posted!

Jonathan is on the move!

It's official, Jonathan is crawling!  Ok, so maybe it's more like creeping...or scooting.  Let's call it an Army crawl.  Whatever you call it, the boy is on the move!

Kaitlyn loves watching Dora, but as you can see in the video, I'm afraid she's learning more from Swiper than the little latina girl!

On another Jonathan note, last night was supposed to be his first night sleeping in his own room.  Unfortunately, he woke up crying 3 times before we went to bed ourselves.  Not wanting to make endless trips to his room throughout the night (and not wanting to wake his sister who is right next door) we ended up bringing him back into our room.  I'm not sure what his deal was, he takes all of his naps in his room during the day so he's used to his crib.  I guess crawling and moving to his own room was too much for him in one day.  Hopefully, we'll have better luck tonight!

Adorableness

Kaitlyn is doing so many cute things lately.  And I'm not just saying that because I'm her Mom and every single things she does is adorable to me.  Ok, so maybe that is it.  Check out the evidence below and you can decide for yourself.

While Jonathan sat waiting for me to gather things to take downstairs, Kaitlyn came over to him and did this.  It was awesome...

Did you catch how she said he was "too cute" after she sang it the first time?  Again, best Big Sister EVER!

Here's one with her trying out her new baseball glove she got for her birthday:

And check out these goofy faces:

I told you she was adorable!

And this little guy gives her some good competition in the Most Adorable contest.
I call it an adorable tie---not that I'm biased! :)

{ok, I'm done saying adorable...for now.}

Testing, testing...

Yesterday morning at 11:05 a.m. our municipality held routine tests for their emergency siren system.  Thank goodness the embassy sent out an email a few hours before letting us know they would be doing the tests!  Even though I knew it was a coming, it was still pretty freaky!  I quickly grabbed the video camera so I could share the eeriness.

Of course, just as I opened the door, the test was over.

When Ron got home, I showed him the video and he said, "You know that if you ever hear those sirens and you didn't get word from the embassy first...?" And before he could finish, I said, "...get in the bomb shelter!"  Yes, we have a bomb shelter in our home.  Let's hope we only hear those sirens during one of these tests.

Jonathan is 6 months old!

At 6 months old, Jonathan:
  • weighs approximately 13.5 pounds.
  • continues to wear size 2 diapers.
  • is wearing size 6 month clothes.
  • is sitting up on his own---and he loves it!
  • is so aware of his surroundings.  He really focuses on what he sees and hears going on around him.
  • grabs at everything!  If he's sees something that may be in his reach he lunges for it!  He can usually get it, too.
  • loves to squirm around on his belly.  As you saw in my last post, he can easily spin around to get whatever it is he wants.
  • is eating all kinds of food.  He's had rice cereal, oatmeal, green beans, bananas, apples, peaches, sweet potatoes, and carrots.  So far, he likes it all.
  • is still sleeping in our room.  I really think it's time that he move to his own room, but first we have to work on getting Kaitlyn out of our room. These days, all four of us wake up in the same bed.  I secretly love it.
  • continues to bond with his sister.
  • is starting to "talk"--a lot.  His babbling is adorable and he can get quite vocal when trying to speak his mind.

Happy 6 months, little man! xo
